Ethos Group
Our Ethos Group has representatives from Years 5 and 6 who have volunteered to serve our school.
We meet every Thursday after school with Mrs McHale and we are always busy with a new project. If you see us around, ask us what we are currently planning. You can easily find us by looking for our Ethos badge. It has the cross at the centre and a rainbow of hope coming from it. We would happily have a chat to tell you about what our current project is.
We support our school in developing our Christian distinctiveness by promoting our Vision and Christian Values.
And do our absolute best to ‘Let our Light Shine.’
Here is a (non-exhaustive) list of many of our past and present activities.
- Collected stationery that we sent to a poorly resourced school in Nepal.
- Lead prayer times with each class each half term.
- Collected for the Foodbank during Advent and Lent.
- Held cake sales after school.
- Ran a cake stall at the Christmas and Summer Fairs.
- Promoted and raised awareness during ‘Children’s Mental health Awareness Day.’
- Fundraised for smaller charities.
- Led on charity work including Children in Need, Comic Relief and Macmillan.
- Collected baby items for young mums in need at Gabriel Court in Rochdale.
- Introduced ‘Pray-pril’ to our school. (Extra opportunities to pray throughout April.)
- Keep our school prayer areas Liturgical.
- Sold poppies during November.
- Advertise forthcoming events.
- Bought lighthouses for prayer areas around school.
- Bought Nativity scenes for each class.
- Bought an Easter scene showing the tomb where Jesus was laid.
- Create the Posada and Lent Luggage packs.
- Create bookmarks that we send to our local church for the parishioners to use during Lent and Advent.
- Through mime, we have performed the meaning of Easter.
- We hold an Easter competition across school for designing an Easter Egg. We fund the prizes from money we have raised and we get Rev. Ruth to be the judge.
- And so, so, so, so, so, so, so much more!
Here are the prayers that we have written in our meetings that link to our Vision and Christian Values.
A Prayer for Courage
Dear God,
Thank You for Your love and for always being with me.
Sometimes, I feel afraid or unsure of what to do.
Please fill my heart with courage,
So I can be brave, strong, and kind.
Help me to stand up for what is right,
To try new things without fear,
And to trust that You are always guiding me.
When I feel nervous or scared, remind me that I am never alone.
Thank You for making me strong and giving me a brave heart.
Amen.
A Prayer for Perseverance
Dear God,
Thank You for this beautiful day and for the gift of learning.
Help us to be strong and brave when things get difficult.
Give us patience when we make mistakes and courage to try again.
Fill our hearts with kindness, so we can help and encourage one another.
Remind us that with You by our side, we can do great things.
Bless our teachers, our friends, and our families.
Guide us to always do our best and never give up.
Amen.
A Prayer for Responsibility
Dear God,
Thank You for all the blessings You give us each day.
Help us to be responsible in all that we do—
In our schoolwork, in our friendships, and at home.
Teach us to take care of our duties with honesty and care.
Remind us to be kind, to help others, and to make good choices.
Give us the strength to do what is right, even when it is hard.
May we always be trustworthy and do our best in all things.
Amen.
A Prayer for Forgiveness
Dear God,
Thank You for Your love and kindness.
I know that sometimes I make mistakes,
I say things I shouldn't say,
I do things I shouldn't do,
And I hurt others without meaning to.
Please forgive me, Lord,
And help me to do better.
Teach me to be kind,
To say sorry when I am wrong,
And to forgive others just as You forgive me.
Fill my heart with love and peace,
And guide me to always choose what is right.
Thank You for always listening to my prayers.
Amen.
A Prayer of Thankfulness
Dear God,
Thank You for this beautiful day,
For the sun that shines and the friends who play.
For food to eat and clothes to wear,
For love and kindness everywhere.
Thank You for my family dear,
For teachers who help and always cheer.
For lessons I learn and fun I share,
For knowing You are always there.
Help me to be kind and true,
To love and share like You do too.
With a thankful heart in all I say,
Please bless us all this happy day.
Amen.
A Prayer for Friendship
Dear God,
Thank You for the gift of friendship.
Bless my friends with joy, kindness, and love.
Help us to share, care, and always be fair.
Teach us to listen, forgive, and be patient.
Let our words be gentle and our hearts be kind.
May we always stand together, helping one another.
Fill our school with laughter and peace.
Amen.
